Torque activated chucks
Mechanical chucks activated by torque are used for unwinding and rewinding rolls of any material that is too wide or heavy for pneumatic expanding airshafts. They are characterized by the ability to operate at high rotational speeds.
The operating principle is based on an eccentric core, which, thanks to the torque (induced by braking or driving), pushes the expansion segments towards the core. The material roll is clamped and centered on the chuck with a force proportional to the torque.
Torque activated chucks have no internal moving parts, such as rollers or springs. The absence of any elements between the core and the expansion segments makes the chucks insensitive to contaminants or material particles generated during the rewinding process.
The chucks are self-centering and bidirectional. This implies that the expansion segments are automatically expanded, irrespective of the direction of material rotation
There are three versions of torque activated chucks:
- single (for use with one core diameter)
- double (for use with two core diameters)
- modular (with interchangeable modules for various sleeve diameters)

Side load core chucks
Side load core chucks offer superior performance for clamping reels’ core for the corrugated and paper converting industries
The principle of their operation involves the protrusion of expanding elements by axially pushing the core against the chuck flange. This axial movement of the core pushes the expansion elements outward along an internal conical core. This ensures excellent core grip and high torque transmission.
Single chucks are available for use with cores of 3″, 4″, 5″, 6″, 8″, 10″, and 12″ diameters. Each model can be customized to fit your specific project and machine.
We offer a range of models, including:
- Single-diameter (for use with one core diameter)
- Double-diameter (for use with two core diameter)
- with flange for ejection

Pneumatic core chucks
Pneumatic core chucks, like their mechanical counterparts, are self-centering. Air can be supplied through a pneumatic valve located axially or circumferentially on the chuck. Air can also be supplied automatically via a rotary joint.
The level of expansion is directly proportional to the applied air pressure. Upon deflation, the expansion segments return to their original position.
Pneumatic chucks find application where core clamping is required in the absence of, or with minimal, applied torque.
The chucks are made from hardened steel and are available in sizes ranging from 3″ to 12″
The following models are available:
- Positive (expansion occurs upon air supply)
- Negative, or safety (expansion elements collapse upon air supply)
- Adapters (multiple sockets can be installed on existing chucks)
